I won't go into my impassioned speach about how EVERYONE who owns a pet needs to be responsible and get it spayed and neutered, how there are way too many stray and unwanted animals that are out there that need homes...(ok, stopping now)
Saturday was about helping, and giving back to an organization that does it on a daily basis-Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter
It's a no-kill shelter that does it's best at finding forever homes for dogs and cats. Most of the people that "work" there, do it on a volunteer basis. The people we met there were kind and wonderful and you could tell how much they really loved all the animals that were there. Lowe's donated over $1,000 in supplies that we used throughout the day to build shade pagodas, put up long blinds on the kennels, provided fresh mulch for the outside runs, and a new a.c. unit for the indoor kennel.
It was an awesome day, and even though we were both exhausted (physically and mentally) by the end of the day, we felt so good about what we'd done.
If you are in the area and happen to be looking for a pet to add to your home, give the people at FOPAS a call!
Aaron and myself heading back to spread mulch.
